Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Carol Johnstone
When I was in high school I read a book about hearing and communication called, The Speech Chain. This book sparked my interest in studying to become a speech and language pathologist (speech therapist). After graduating from Boston University which is near my hometown of Nahant, MA, I continued on to obtain a masters degree at the University of Pittsburgh. After completing my education I obtained the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. I have maintained this national certificate by completing the required additional training every three years. I met my husband Mike while in Pittsburgh. After marrying we lived in several states before settling in Charlotte. We have two children who now live with their families in Northern California. When our children were young I served many years on the PTA plus supported our children's interests in scouting, youth sports, science/math clubs, and Irish dance. I have worked in schools for over 25 years. Everyday I am inspired by our Northside school staff members and students. It is my honor to help children improve their communication skills and to grow as individuals. My favorite pastimes include playing scrabble, cooking, reading, exercising, and visiting my children and grandchildren.
